It is with great sadness that we say farewell to the Salisbury, which closes on 20 February. We loved the spaciousness, the storage, the location and the history. We have stayed in basic rooms and, more recently, in the suites with a separate sitting area and kitchenette. I doubt that we will see its like again. Thanks and best wishes to all the staff.

I just spent 5 days in New York with a friend and of course we booked the Salisbury. As usual, I booked a suite that ended in “10” in our case it was 1010. It was a full floor back to front unit that had a huge living room, a dining room with wet bar, microwave, mini refrigerator and a round table with 4 chairs. It made having friends over for a dinner, where you don’t feel pressured to leave a restaurant because your table is needed for the next group and loud conversations interrupting your own, something you can easily avoid. Our bedroom had two double beds with wonderful brand new firm mattresses and two closets. It was very clean and housekeeping did a great job every day. Now to the bad news: the Salisbury, which has been operating for over 80 years will be closing at the end of next month. It will be demolished and a new pencil thin, lightning rod high rise will eventually take its place. I was devastated because it was my go-to hotel in New York for 20 years. However, with “swanky” hotels like the Park Hyatt just next door and others across the street, it was just a matter of time. This hotel had character, it had spunk, it was what was really great about New York. It was a little rough around the edges but it had all that history behind it. I will miss the wonderful staff who have been helpful over the years and the feeling of coming home, every time I walked into the lobby. I love you, Salisbury, R.I.P.

“Great service ”
For the price, you won't go wrong. Yes, as some have indicated, it's aged, but for the price, you get a hell of a deal. It's clean and very functional. You couldn't ask for a better location. Employees are very friendly and helpful. We were very happy with our stay there. Highly recommend.

“Sad”
We have been coming here for a few years and so sad it is closing. Very affordable and very friendly staff. While the rooms are throw back to the early 1930s we have always enjoyed our stay. Location was amazing.
